Former prime minister Khaleda Zia is set to receive the “Indomitable Woman of Democracy” award from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
The accolade, which will be presented on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, recognises her courageous leadership and significant efforts in the restoration and fortification of democracy within Bangladesh.
According to a press release issued by the ministry, the award ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 8 at the Osmani Memorial Hall in Dhaka. The recognition serves to highlight her steadfast commitment to establishing democratic practices in the nation.
In keeping with annual traditions, the ministry will also honour five other women alongside Khaleda Zia as ‘Indomitable Women’ across various categories for their respective contributions.
The other awardees include Nurun Nahar Akter for her achievements in the economy and Mosammat Bobita Khatun for her work in education and employment.
Nur Banu Kabir will be recognised as a successful mother, while Mosammat Shamla Begum is being cited for her resilience in overcoming adversity. Additionally, Mosammat Afroza Yasmin will receive an award for her exceptional impact on social development.
