The Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Chattogram has been declared closed until further notice, considering the security situation, according to the IVAC website.
The Assistant High Commission of India has said that all activities at this centre will remain suspended from Sunday until further notice.
New dates will be announced later for applicants whose visa appointments were scheduled, the statement mentioned.
Earlier, citing security reasons, activities at the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka’s Jamuna Future Park were suspended after 2pm on 17 December. The centre’s operations resumed normally the following morning.
On 17 December, protesters under the banner of July Oikya announced a programme titled “March to Indian High Commission.” They began the march from Rampura Bridge towards the Indian High Commission, demanding the return of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and other perpetrators of the July killings.
However, police personnel stopped the march at Badda after the Indian High Commission expressed security concerns and strongly requested assurance of safety for its officials.
