India is scheduled to host the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting on 14 and 15 May, as announced by Randhir Jaiswal, the Spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
The summit will be presided over by India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar, and will include participation from foreign ministers and heads of delegation representing both member states and partner nations.
While in the country, the delegates are also expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jaiswal described the meeting as a “useful platform” for dialogue and partnership on pressing international and regional matters, as well as topics related to global economic and political oversight.
The officials will engage in an exchange of perspectives on various issues of mutual concern.
The second day of the event will feature a session titled “BRICS@20: Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”. This will be followed by a dedicated discussion regarding the “Reforms of Global Governance and Multilateral System.”
The upcoming summit follows the last gathering of BRICS Foreign Ministers, which took place on 26 September 2025, during the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80). That session was also chaired by India in its role as the incoming BRICS Chair for 2026.
The BRICS alliance currently comprises 11 significant emerging markets and developing nations: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The group was initially formalised during a 2006 meeting of Foreign Ministers in New York, with the first official BRIC Summit held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009. South Africa was incorporated into the bloc in 2010 and attended its first summit the following year in Sanya.
The grouping saw further growth in January 2024 when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE joined as full members, followed by Indonesia in January 2025.
Additionally, ten countries – Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam – joined the organisation as partner countries in 2025.
