Obsession breakout star Inde Navarrette has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Rogue in the upcoming X-Men reboot, marking a major new step in her rapidly rising career. Marvel confirmed the casting at Disney’s D23 event.
According to Forbes, Navarrette had previously met X-Men director Jake Schreier after Obsession and had expressed interest in playing Mystique. She will now take on the role of Rogue, previously played by Anna Paquin in the live-action franchise.
Rogue is one of Marvel’s best-known mutants. Her powers allow her to absorb another person’s abilities, memories and powers through physical contact.
Marvel also unveiled several other members of its new X-Men cast at D23. Christopher Abbott will play Professor X, Samara Weaving will portray Emma Frost, Adam Driver will play Mister Sinister, Sadie Sink will appear as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops and Maya Boyd as Storm.
Navarrette’s casting comes after her breakthrough in Obsession. She had previously said she wanted to play Mystique, describing the character as “super cool”.
The new film will introduce a fresh generation of mutants to the MCU. Jake Schreier will direct, with the film scheduled for release on 5 May 2028.
Rogue’s return also opens a new chapter for a character Anna Paquin first brought to the big screen in 2000’s X-Men. In Marvel lore, mutants possess the X-gene, which can give them extraordinary abilities and places them at the centre of the franchise’s themes of identity, prejudice and acceptance.
