Bangladesh Bank (BB) has promoted Imtiaz Ahmad Masum to the position of executive director, marking a new step in his more than two-decade career at the central bank.
Masum joined Bangladesh Bank in 1999 as an assistant director and has since served in several key departments at the head office.
Over the years, he worked in the Vigilance Sub-Division, the Foreign Exchange Inspection and Vigilance Department, the Financial Integrity and Customer Services Department, the Accounts and Budgeting Department, and the Sustainable Finance Department.
He also served as director of the Investment and Finance Facility-II project and as director of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU). Most recently, he was serving as director of Bangladesh Bank’s Barishal office.
Masum completed his honours and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Dhaka. He later earned a Professional Master’s in Banking and Finance from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.
He also participated in the Certified Expert in Risk Management training programme jointly organised by the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in Germany and the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management.
During his career, Masum attended professional training programmes in several countries, including the Philippines, Singapore, India, Malaysia, England, Thailand, Germany, Switzerland and Turkey.
In recognition of his work in anti-money laundering risk management, he received Bangladesh Bank’s AML Risking Award in the best category in 2021.
Masum is married and has one daughter.
