Veteran Bangladeshi actor Ilias Kanchan is returning home after spending more than a year in London undergoing treatment for a brain tumour.
According to Bangladesh time, the actor departed from London Heathrow Airport for Dhaka on Monday morning.
He was accompanied by his son-in-law, Ariful Islam Collins. A photo taken at the airport showed the veteran actor with white hair and a beard.
The development was confirmed by Liton Ershad, vice-president of the road safety organisation Nirapad Sarak Chai.
Speaking to the media, Liton said Kanchan’s visit to Bangladesh would be brief, as he must return to London to continue his treatment.
“Ilias Kanchan is returning to Bangladesh today. However, this is not a long-term visit. He has a follow-up medical examination in London on 15 August, so he will have to return before 14 August,” he said.
Kanchan has been undergoing treatment in London since being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
According to those close to the actor, he has already undergone 60 sessions of chemotherapy, and the prolonged treatment has taken a visible toll on his physical condition.
Liton also shared an update on the actor’s health, saying the treatment has not yet produced the desired improvement.
“So far, the treatment has not shown the expected progress. His family has ensured he receives the best possible medical care in London. However, Kanchan himself wanted to return to Bangladesh, so the family decided to bring him home for a few days,” he added.
Ilias Kanchan travelled to London for treatment in April last year.
In August, he underwent brain surgery, but doctors were unable to remove a significant portion of the tumour due to medical complications.
Since then, he has continued chemotherapy and other forms of treatment under the supervision of his medical team.
The veteran actor is scheduled to return to London before 14 August for further examinations on 15 August.
