A number of senior Iranian officials have issued strong warnings of retaliation, signalling heightened tensions following recent developments.
Mohsen Rezaei, a military adviser and former Revolutionary Guard Commander, said Iran still possessed “major untouched levers” to counter any blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Writing on X, he stressed that the country would not be pressured by “tweets and imaginary plans.”
Meanwhile, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who led Iran’s delegation in the talks, addressed US President Donald Trump upon returning home. In a firm message, he said: “If you fight, we will fight.”
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard later said the strait remained under the country’s “full control” and continued to allow passage for non-military vessels.
However, it warned that any military movement would face a “forceful response,” according to two semi-official Iranian news agencies.
During the 21-hour negotiations held in Pakistan over the weekend, the US military reported that two destroyers had passed through the strait ahead of mine-clearing operations marking the first such move since the conflict began. Iran rejected that claim.
