Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam expressed optimism that the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) would continue its proceedings regarding July killings at a normal pace.
Speaking to reporters following a testimony session at the tribunal on 19 February, the chief prosecutor noted that the law minister had recently indicated that ICT’s activities would proceed as usual.
He stated that while the government has not issued specific instructions, there have been clear hints to maintain the current momentum.
The chief prosecutor said as long as they are in charge, all activities will be continued at a normal pace.
In International Crimes Tribunal-2, the fathers of martyrs Fazle Rabbi and Tanha, both from Mirpur area, provided testimony against seven individuals, including Obaidul Quader, in connection with the July killings.
Meanwhile, International Crimes Tribunal-1 has deferred the testimony for a case involving enforced disappearances and torture at the RAB TFI cell until 25 February.
The tribunal has also issued orders to produce all the accused, including Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Javed Patwary, and Harun-ur-Rashid, before the court.
Commenting on the matter, Member of Parliament Akhtar Hossain emphasised that the current government’s most critical responsibility is to extradite Sheikh Hasina and other accused individuals to face trial.
He further remarked that BNP government must address the failure to arrest and bring the primary suspects under the purview of justice.
