The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) on Thursday held its 25th convocation at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.
Newly qualified cost and management accountants received certificates and crests in the presence of national and international dignitaries.
Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan attended the programme as chief guest.
Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Md Abdur Rahman Khan, Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan and President of the South Asian Federation of Accountants Mohammed Humayun Kabir were present as special guests.
President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Jean Bouquot attended the convocation as the speaker, reflecting ICMAB’s growing international engagement.
ICMAB President Mahtab Uddin Ahmed presided over the programme.
Reaching professional milestones requires discipline and perseverance, and shortcuts only delay success, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said, urging the new graduates to stay focused amid distractions and to uphold integrity and responsibility in their professional lives.
Strong accounting and auditing systems are essential for transparency, proper use of public funds and prevention of corruption, Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, noting that these practices should go beyond identifying weaknesses to offer constructive recommendations and strengthen accountable governance.
Accounting professionals play a vital role in bridging financial and non-financial decision-making and must commit to continuous learning, IFAC President Jean Bouquot said, stressing that trust and ethics are the foundation of the profession and should never be compromised.
The convocation concluded with renewed emphasis on professional integrity and Bangladesh’s expanding engagement with the global accounting community.
