Veteran actor Suresh Oberoi has recalled the lengths he went to help his son, Vivek Oberoi, secure his first Bollywood break, including carrying his photographs from one producer’s office to another before approaching filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma.
According to NDTV, Suresh spoke about the struggle in an interview with Nidhi Vasandani on her YouTube channel. He said he faced a “second struggle” while trying to find opportunities for Vivek, much as he had at the beginning of his own career.
“I had to struggle for him again, went door to door. Like I used to take my pictures, now I was taking Vivek’s pictures,” Suresh said.
At the time, he was working with Varma, who was looking for an actor for Company. Varma asked to see a recording of Vivek’s acting. Suresh said his son had a tape from his acting institute and arranged for the filmmaker to watch it.
Varma came over to view the tape and was immediately impressed by Vivek’s performance. He subsequently cast him in Company, which became the actor’s breakthrough and marked his Bollywood debut.
Suresh said Saathiya remains his personal favourite among Vivek’s films. He also recalled feeling immensely proud and emotional, even shedding tears, after watching his son’s performance in Company.
Vivek was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s OTT action series Indian Police Force and the comedy Mastiii 4. He is preparing for Nitesh Tiwari’s multi-part epic Ramayana and is also set to appear in Vishal Ranjan Mishra’s Grey, alongside Nithya Menen and Ashish Vidyarthi.
