West Indies head coach Daren Sammy shared a short message on social media after the team’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2026. His post said only four words: “I just wanna go home.”
The message quickly caught attention far beyond West Indies fans. It reflected the mood of a team stuck in India after their return flight was delayed.
What should have been a normal trip home has turned into a long wait. The delay came after international airspace restrictions affected several flight routes from the region.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed the situation in an official statement. The board said the senior men’s team could not leave India on schedule due to international airspace restrictions.
CWI also said that all players, coaches and officials are safe. The team is staying in India while new travel plans are being arranged.
The disruption came from rising security tension linked to conflict in the Gulf region. Airspace closures and strict flight restrictions affected many routes used by international airlines.
Because of this, several flights had to be cancelled, delayed or rerouted. Airlines were forced to avoid some air corridors in West Asia and the Gulf.
For West Indies, the timing made the situation harder. The team had already been knocked out of the tournament. Instead of heading home after the event, players and staff now face more waiting and uncertainty.
Such delays can be tiring after a long tournament. Players and support staff often feel drained when travel plans collapse.

CWI said safe travel remains the main priority. The board is working with the ICC and other authorities to arrange a new flight plan for the team.
