Humam Quader Chowdhury, BNP-nominated candidate for the Chattogram-7 (Rangunia) constituency, has pledged to maintain regular engagement with educational institutions if elected.
Speaking at an interactive question-and-answer session with young people on Wednesday night, he said, “Not once a year—I will regularly visit educational institutions and meet students directly.”
He added that, regardless of his own electoral outcome, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will become the prime minister of Bangladesh in the future.
The event was held at his auditorium in Quader Nagar, Rangunia upazila, around 8pm. Students from the University of Chittagong, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), various private universities, colleges, madrasas, as well as members of social organisations, media workers, content creators, and sports enthusiasts attended the programme.
During the session, Humam Quader emphasised the importance of youth participation in shaping the future of Rangunia. He said, “Those of you here are the leaders of tomorrow. Your advice and cooperation are vital for building Rangunia’s future.”
Highlighting his development vision, he criticised what he described as uneven and self-serving projects.
“In one union, an MP spent Tk4.5 crore to build a road to his own house, while in another union a pregnant woman died due to the poor condition of the road. I do not want fragmented development; I want balanced and overall development for Rangunia,” he said.
Referring to his interest in animal welfare, he said, “I do not want to keep the Chattogram Zoo as it is. Animals should be kept in a more natural environment. There is also a future plan to transform it into a safari park.”
Responding to a query regarding salaries and allowances of imams and muezzins, Humam Quader said steps should be taken to ensure their dignified living standards and pledged to work on the issue.
He assured that he is ready to take necessary initiatives to ensure peace and communal harmony.
He also said that, if elected, he will take steps to curb the influence of the “Balumahal syndicate.”
“If the election is held on 12 February, all types of sand extraction—legal or illegal—will be stopped from the 13th,” he remarked.
