Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday called on people to embrace the values of peace, justice and compassion embodied in Holy Ashura, saying Islam rejects division, hatred and social discord.
In a message issued on the eve of Holy Ashura, the prime minister paid deep respect to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the other martyrs of Karbala, describing their sacrifice as a timeless symbol of truth and moral courage.
“Let us take inspiration from the teachings of Holy Ashura and strengthen harmony, mutual respect, tolerance and brotherhood in society,” he said. “We must renew our commitment to building a just, peaceful and welfare-oriented society.”
Holy Ashura, which commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in Karbala, will be observed across the country on Friday with due religious solemnity.
The prime minister said Islam is founded on the principles of peace, justice, compassion and the welfare of humanity, and has no place for conflict, hatred or division.
On the occasion, he expressed profound respect for Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family members and companions who embraced martyrdom in the tragic incident of Karbala, a prominent city in central Iraq.
He also conveyed his condolences to Muslims Ummah in Bangladesh and around the world.
Describing Holy Ashura as one of the most significant days in Islamic history, Tarique Rahman said its message extends beyond grief and remembrance, representing enduring ideals of truth, patience, sacrifice and steadfastness in the face of injustice.
“The tragedy of Karbala remains a powerful lesson for humanity and continues to inspire people across generations to stand for truth and resist oppression,” he said.
