Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon on Thursday announced that teachers who have relocated to cities from rural areas over the past 20 years will be sent back to their original postings.
Speaking at a consultation meeting in the Khulna Divisional Auditorium, the minister emphasised that rural education cannot be allowed to suffer due to a lack of teaching staff while educators seek the facilities of urban centers.
“It cannot be the case that teacher shortages persist in villages while everyone enjoys city benefits. Rural areas must not lag behind in education,” Milon stated.
The minister revealed that the country’s education system is currently grappling with a shortage of 60,000 teachers, a gap that he admitted makes it difficult to improve the quality of education. To address this, he noted that the government plans to recruit new teachers in phases.
Turning to the upcoming HSC and equivalent examinations, he expressed concern over a recent rise in cheating. To maintain academic standards and eliminate copying, he announced that all nine education boards will now use a uniform question paper.
Furthermore, the minister highlighted a significant change in how students can challenge their results. Moving away from the previous practice of simply re-tallying marks, the law has been amended to allow for a complete re-evaluation of the answer scripts to ensure fairness and prevent manipulation.
Oversight In a major policy update, Milon announced that a nationwide mid-day meal program will be launched in July. He issued a stern warning against any corruption or irregularities in the program, stating that strict action would be taken if poor-quality food is served to students.
The meeting, organised by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Jashore, was chaired by the board’s chairman, Faruque Azam Mohammad Abdul Salam. High-ranking officials, including the Khulna Divisional Commissioner, the DIG of Khulna Range, and administrators from the Khulna City Corporation and Khulna Development Authority, were in attendance alongside education officials from 10 districts.
