BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that Tarique Rahman will receive a welcome in Dhaka “such as no leader has ever received in the past” upon his return from London.
Speaking at a discussion on Sunday afternoon, Fakhrul revealed the party’s preparations as he spoke about the end of Tarique Rahman’s 18-year-long exile.
He said, “I want to express my immense gratitude to Allah, for after 18 long years of exile, Insha Allah, our leader will be with us again on 25 December. This is a matter of great inspiration for us.
“Let us give him a reception on the 25th that no leader has ever received in Bangladesh. We are all ready, Insha Allah.”
Regarding Tarique’s return to the country, Fakhrul said, “We have been filled with hope upon hearing this news. On one hand the country’s leader, Begum Khaleda Zia, is ill and in hospital.
“On the other hand, amidst this uncertainty, we now have the certainty that our leader, the one who shows us the way forward, will be with us on the 25th.”
The discussion took place at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Hall in Kakrail, organised by the Jatiotabadi Muktijoddha Dal and Jatiotabadi Muktijoddha Projonmo, to mark the Victory Day.
The topic of the discussion was “In the critical time of the nation, the National Parliamentary Election is imperative for the protection of democracy.”
The session was chaired by Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat and featured speeches from BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Abdus Salam, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Lt Col (Retd) Zainul Abedin, Muktijoddha Dal’s retired Mizanur Rahman, Nazrul Islam, MA Halim, MA Hakim Khan, and KM Kamruzzaman Nannu, General Secretary of the Jatiotabadi Muktijoddha Projonmo.
