The Highway Police is set to launch a modern, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven “Auto Fine System” on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway starting 18 August 2026.
The new initiative aims to ensure road safety, strengthen traffic discipline, and implement effective, transparent, and technology-based measures against vehicles violating traffic laws on the highway.
The Highway Police Headquarters in Dhaka, through its Additional DIG (Media), has expressed that the department earnestly seeks the sincere co-operation of passengers, transport owners, transport workers’ leaders, and all other stakeholders to successfully implement this system.
Under this system, advanced AI cameras will be utilised to identify vehicles committing traffic infractions, including exceeding the speed limit, illegal parking, and driving on the wrong side of the road.
Once a violation is detected, information regarding the traffic case will be automatically transmitted to the registered owner’s mobile phone via SMS.
Upon receiving the case details, the offending vehicle’s owner will be able to pay the prescribed fine through mobile financial services (such as bKash, Nagad, etc.) using the designated payment method.
The Highway Police said this technological system will allow for the rapid detection of traffic violations, systematic storage of necessary data, and a faster, transparent, error-free, and more effective process for fine collection.
It is expected to raise public awareness regarding compliance with traffic laws, establish order in vehicular movement, and play an effective role in reducing road accidents on the highway.
