Bangladesh Open University (BoU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan on Saturday described former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s contributions to democracy and education as ‘unforgettable’.
He said this while addressing a prayer and milad mahfil event at the university to mark her 82nd birth anniversary, according to a press release.
The VC said Khaleda Zia played a pivotal role in establishing BOU in 1992 to bring education to marginalised and underserved communities, opening higher education opportunities for a large number of people. He prayed for the salvation of her soul.
The event also commemorated martyrs of the Liberation War in 1971, democratic movements, and the 2024 mass uprising.
Special prayers and munajat were offered for the salvation of Khaleda Zia’s soul, and for peace, prosperity and continued success of the university. The munajat was conducted by Hafez Maulana Abul Kashem, khatib of the university’s central mosque, the press release added.
