A tragic road accident claimed the life of Mawlana Sohel Chowdhury (50), a prominent member of Hefazat-e-Islam, in Rausan, Chattogram, on October 8.

Following the incident, Hefazat activists staged protests, blocking the Chattogram-Khagrachhari and Chattogram-Rangamati highways from the morning. As a result, traffic on both major routes came to a standstill, stranding hundreds of vehicles.

According to reports, the accident occurred when Mawlana Sohel was riding his motorcycle near Nabir Sen Government Primary School in Rausan. A bus coming from behind struck the motorcycle, causing him severe injuries.

Local residents rushed to the scene and immediately transported him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after medical examination.
