Veteran actor and singer Fazlur Rahman Babu has been advised to remain in complete rest for at least one year following a successful open-heart surgery.
The procedure was conducted on February 23 at a private hospital in Dhaka. Doctors discharged the celebrated performer to his residence on Tuesday after a period of close post-operative observation.
Confirming the development to the media, his wife Kazi Roksana Roma said Babu fell ill at home around midnight on February 16. “He suddenly felt unwell, and we immediately took him to a nearby hospital in Dhanmondi. After initial examinations, doctors confirmed that he had suffered a heart attack,” she said.
The following day, an angiogram at another hospital revealed severe cardiac complications requiring urgent open-heart surgery. “Doctors advised that the surgery had to be done very quickly. We proceeded without delay,” Roma added.
She said the actor is now in stable condition and showing encouraging signs of recovery. However, physicians have imposed strict medical guidelines to ensure his full rehabilitation. “He is much better now, but he must follow disciplined restrictions to recover completely,” she noted.
According to medical advice, Babu must avoid all forms of professional engagement and physical exertion for at least a year to overcome the trauma of the cardiac episode and major surgery.
Family members have requested fans and well-wishers to keep the actor in their prayers for a smooth and complete recovery.
One of Bangladesh’s most respected character actors, Babu built his career through the country’s vibrant theatre movement before establishing a commanding presence in film and television. Known for his nuanced portrayals of complex rural and urban characters, he continues to command admiration for his versatility and emotional depth.
