A 32-year-old content creator was killed in a road accident in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha while reportedly filming a video while riding a motorcycle.
The deceased, Shawon Mia, was from Daridah Sardarpara village in Bogura’s Mokamtola upazila.
He had been creating various types of video content for Facebook for several years.
The accident occurred around noon on Monday (17 August) near Islampur Current intersection on the Gobindaganj-Raja Birat Road. The motorcycle was badly damaged in the crash.
According to police and local sources, Shawon’s friends would record videos while he rode his motorcycle, which he later posted on his Facebook page.
Some of his videos reportedly featured risky stunts, including riding without holding the motorcycle’s handlebars.
On Monday, he was reportedly filming another such video when he let go of the handlebars.
After travelling some distance, he lost control of the motorcycle, which crashed into a roadside tree.
Shawon sustained critical injuries in the accident. Locals attempted to take him to the upazila health complex, but he died on the way.
Local resident Ujjal Haque said Shawon regularly made videos while riding without holding the handlebars, and such videos often received high numbers of views on his Facebook page.
“He was making a video in the same way on Monday when the accident occurred,” Haque said.
He added that rain may have made the road slippery, contributing to the loss of control.
Shawon had reportedly lived abroad for several years before recently returning home and beginning to create online content.
Gobindaganj Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Mozammel Haque confirmed the death.
He said police recovered the body and took it to the police station before informing Shawon’s family.
The body will be handed over to his relatives in accordance with legal procedures, while the process of filing a case is underway.
