The High Court on Sunday deferred until 29 October the hearing of a petition filed by former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque seeking to quash a murder case linked to the July 2024 uprising.
The bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja adjourned the hearing after Khairul’s counsel, Md Jahangir Hossain, sought more time citing personal difficulties.
Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman did not oppose the adjournment but accused the defence of repeatedly delaying proceedings and “creating confusion” during court appearances.
The court had earlier deferred the hearing on 11 August following chaos between lawyers affiliated with the Awami League and the BNP over a government request to delay proceedings.
Khairul was arrested on 24 July this year in connection with the killing of Abdul Quiyyum, a Juba Dal leader, during the July 2024 uprising in Kajla, Dhaka.
The murder case was filed on 6 July 2025, nearly a year after the incident, naming Khairul along with several hundred Awami League leaders, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
