After overcoming various legal complications, the biennial elections for the board of directors of the Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association (BSAA) for the 2025-2027 term has finally been scheduled for Sunday (28 December).
Commodore (retd) AZM Jalal Uddin, chairman of the Election Management Board, confirmed that voting will take place at the BSAA conference room in Mecca Medina Trade Center, Agrabad, from 8am to 3pm
In an official notification signed by Uddin, all eligible voters have been instructed to bring their voter ID cards to the polling station. Board members Captain Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Bhuiyan and Md Zahidul Hasan have been assigned to assist in managing the election process.
Earlier in October, the commerce ministry suspended the BSAA elections citing irregularities in the nomination process and restrictions on candidates submitting their papers.
Following this, Chattogram Additional Commissioner (revenue) Sharmin Jahan was appointed as the administrator to oversee the organisation’s activities.
The administrator was tasked with updating the voter list within 120 days and ensuring that a fair election can be conducted. Subsequently, the matter was taken to the High Court, which intervened and cleared the way for the elections to proceed.
