Two shareholder directors have been elected unopposed to the board of the Dhaka Stock Exchange to fill two vacant positions.
In a press release, the exchange said the election commission formally declared Md Hanif Bhuiya and Md Sajedul Islam elected as directors on 15 December.
They were formally inducted into the DSE board at the 64th annual general meeting held on 17 December.
At the same annual general meeting, outgoing shareholder directors Mohammad Shahjahan and Mohammad Shakil Rizvi retired from the board.
Newly elected director Md Hanif Bhuiya began his capital market career in 1995 as a member of the exchange.
In 2006, he established Rapid Securities Limited as a corporate member of the DSE and currently serves as the firm’s managing director.

He has served multiple terms as a DSE councillor and director and was elected director for the fourth time in the demutualised DSE in 2017.
He also served as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and received a national award for his contribution to sports.
The other newly elected director, Md Sajedul Islam, has been actively involved in the capital market since 2006.
His firm, Shyamol Equity Management Limited, obtained DSE membership in 1993, and he currently serves as its managing director.
He has played a consistent role in strategy formulation, risk management, regulatory compliance, and business expansion.
He served as senior vice-president of the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh from 2021 to 2023.

Since 2024, he has been serving as president of the DSE Brokers Club.
He is also chairman of Union Oxygen PLC and Musaffa Chemical Industries Limited.
He holds an MCom in Management and an MBA in Finance and Banking and has experience in capital market law, human resource management, and business development.
He has travelled to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan to participate in capital market-related meetings and training programmes.
