A sudden storm with heavy hail battered Lalmonirhat late Friday night, damaging homes and destroying standing crops across all five upazilas.
Large hailstones pierced tin roofs, leaving houses exposed and soaking belongings, while strong winds tore off roofing materials and fences, leaving several families homeless.
Field visits on Saturday showed many families staying under the open sky as their homes were badly damaged, with tin sheets scattered across fields and treetops.
Power supply was disrupted in several areas after falling trees snapped electricity lines, with restoration work underway.
Crops including maize, onion, garlic, tobacco, peanuts, and vegetables suffered extensive damage, raising concerns among farmers over financial losses after heavy investment.
The worst-hit areas include Harati and Khuniagachh unions in Sadar upazila, Votmari and Kakina in Kaliganj, Mahishkhocha in Aditmari, and parts of the Teesta char region.
Mahishkhocha Union Parishad Acting Chairman Abdul Majid Hossain said around 100 families lost their homes.
Local representatives are preparing damage lists to assess the extent of losses.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (additional charge) Mir Faisal Ali said authorities are assessing the damage and assistance will be provided once allocations are received.
