A 90-year-old woman died of a heart attack in Daganbhuiyan upazila on Sunday evening after receiving false news that her granddaughter had been killed in a road accident.
The deceased, Khairun Nessa, was a resident of Suta Bepari Bari in Uttar Alampur village under Jaylaskar union.
A seventh-grade student of Silonia High School was killed in an accident near Silonia Bazar on Sunday afternoon.
As Jannatul Fahim, a student at the same school, could not be found immediately, her family feared she was the victim. When the news reached home, Khairun collapsed in grief.
She was taken to Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex, where attending physician Ifrad Khandaker pronounced her dead. He said she had likely suffered a heart attack caused by severe emotional trauma.
Jannatul was found safe shortly afterwards. However, by the time relatives brought her home, Khairun had already died.
The deceased’s son, Swapan Mia, an auto-rickshaw driver, said he went to Silonia Bazar after hearing about the accident but could not find his daughter. He then called home to inform his wife, leading to his mother’s fatal shock.
“I have regained my daughter, but I have lost my mother,” Swapan Mia lamented.
