Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin emphasized the ministry’s core mission to protect consumer rights across the country.
Speaking at a meeting with edible oil Delivery Order (DO) traders, he stated that necessary steps will be taken to ensure market stability, regardless of political affiliations.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Commerce, included key figures such as Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Director General Faruk Ahmed, and Trading Corporation of Bangladesh Chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Faisal Azad. Bashir acknowledged the traders’ contributions to the edible oil supply and called for their cooperation in stabilizing the market.
He criticised the traditional approach of raiding retail centers to control oil prices, suggesting a more comprehensive strategy that includes monitoring the entire supply chain—from production to distribution. Bashir dismissed claims that small shopkeepers are to blame for oil shortages, calling such publicized operations ineffective. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to tackling the root causes of instability in the oil market.
