The government has decided to completely withdraw the monthly rental or meter charges for prepaid electricity meters following long-standing complaints from consumers.
The decision will be implemented soon, said Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku on Sunday while speaking to journalists.
The move is aimed at making electricity services more customer-friendly, he said.
“Our goal is to ensure customer-friendly electricity service,” said Tuku.
“With that objective in mind, the decision has been made to completely abolish the meter charge system,” he added.
