Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam on Saturday said the government aims to create 10 lakh jobs in the country’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector over the next five years.
He said the government is implementing an integrated action plan to make the country’s telecommunications sector modern, investment-friendly, and future-oriented.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a roundtable titled “Future of the Telecom Sector: What is the Thinking of the New Government” at Hotel InterContinental in the capital.
The Telecom and Technology Reporters Network Bangladesh (TRNB) organised the event.
Faqir Mahbub Anam said the government is giving priority to ensuring fast internet and technology services reach remote areas to reduce the digital divide.
He said the government’s major goals include setting up free Wi-Fi zones in different areas, expanding telecom infrastructure, and creating technology-based employment opportunities.
