Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said the existing satellite service agreement needs to be renewed quickly to ensure continuity of services.
He made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet at the Post and Telecommunications Division office in the Secretariat.
The meeting discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications and satellite sectors, improving service quality, and reviewing ongoing activities.
“The current quality of satellite communication services is satisfactory, but the agreement must be renewed quickly as it has expired,” he said.
He added, “Enhancing domestic capacity in the telecommunications sector and ensuring strategic autonomy remain the government’s priorities.”
The French Ambassador said, “Cooperation between Bangladesh and France in telecommunications and satellite sectors is positive, and we are keen to expand it further.”
He expressed hope that the agreement renewal would be resolved soon through mutual discussions.
The meeting was informed that discussions on renewing the satellite service agreement are ongoing, and both sides expect positive progress.
Post and Telecommunications Division Secretary Abdun Naser Khan and French development agency AFD Country Director Cynthia Mela were present at the meeting.
