The government has urged Lithuanian technology firms to expand their operations into South Asian market, pointing to its rapidly growing ICT sector, skilled youth, and freelance workforce to drive bilateral trade.
The call was made during a bilateral meeting between Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir and non-resident Ambassador of Lithuania to Bangladesh Diana Mickevičienė, at Commerce Ministry in Secretariat on Sunday.
The discussions focused on exploring economic potential, investment co-operation, and expanding partnerships in key sectors including information technology (ICT), cyber security, and fintech. Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan was also present.
Muktadir noted that while existing trade between two nations remains limited, there is immense scope for expansion.
He highlighted Bangladesh’s appeal as a promising investment destination, noting that robust facilities are in place to ensure the repatriation of capital and profits back to investors’ home countries within a stable, investment-friendly environment.
Acknowledging the potential, Ambassador Mickevičienė emphasised Lithuania’s position as a global pioneer in world-class laser technology, GovTech, and fintech services.
She expressed Lithuania’s keen interest in sharing experience and technical expertise to bolster Bangladesh’s ongoing digital transformation, technological development, and cyber security framework.
The ambassador added that establishing effective partnerships between public and private sectors of both nations would unlock new frontiers in innovation and investment.
To facilitate this, both sides stressed the need for swift measures to expand trade, enhance business-to-business communication, and launch joint ventures in technology-dependent sectors.
