Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has assured that the government will address the legitimate demands of the police force within its financial capacity, with a view to transforming it into a modern and public welfare-oriented institution.

The minister made these remarks as a special guest at the ‘Prime Minister’s Special Welfare Meeting’ held on Sunday at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium, marking the celebration of ‘Police Week-2026’. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the event as the chief guest.

Addressing concerns about career stagnation, the home minister pointed out that many constables currently retire after 40 years of service without receiving a promotion.

To resolve this issue, the government is considering a special policy for honorary promotions upon retirement for police personnel with satisfactory service records. Under this proposed initiative, Constables may be promoted to Honorary Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI), ASIs to Honorary Sub-Inspectors (SI), and SIs to Honorary Inspectors.
