Govt launches nationwide drive to boost fish production

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has said the government has undertaken a series of nationwide initiatives to preserve native fish species and help meet growing domestic demand.

He made the remarks on Saturday morning after releasing fish fry in Garail Beel under Tangail Sadar upazila.

The state minister said the Department of Fisheries is stocking fish fry in government water bodies, ponds, beels and privately owned reservoirs across the country to increase production and ensure supply.

He said the initiative is aimed at both conserving indigenous fish species and enhancing overall fish production to meet national demand.

Tuku also called for an end to the use of harmful fishing equipment, including Chinese gill nets, stressing the need for strict law enforcement alongside public awareness campaigns.

Among others, Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haq, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanjoy Kumar Mohanto, Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shaheen Mia, former district BNP member secretary Mahmudul Haque Sanu, and local fisheries officials were present on the occasion.
