The government has decided to further review the recommendations on the proposed pay scale for government officials and employees.
This decision was made during a meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the Secretary Committee regarding the implementation of the proposed pay scale recommendations.
After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Economic and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said, “The Secretary Committee will submit a report after reviewing the matter. Based on those recommendations, further steps will be determined.”
The meeting was attended by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, and Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mojumdar.
Under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus, an interim government formed a 23-member pay commission, headed by former finance secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan, to create a new pay structure. Before the elections, the National Pay Commission submitted its report, recommending a 100 per cent to 140 per cent increase in the salaries and allowances of government employees.
To implement the new pay scale, the government will need to incur an additional cost of nearly Tk1,06,000 crore.
According to the recommendations, the new pay scale will set the minimum salary at Tk20,000 and the maximum salary at Tk1,60,000.
After the commission’s report submission, the government formed a 9-member review committee, headed by the cabinet secretary, on 8 February, as part of implementing the recommendations.
The review committee has been tasked with examining the reports of the National Pay Commission 2025, Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission 2025, and the Armed Forces Pay Committee 2025, and submitting recommendations to the government.
