The price of gold has fallen by 10.9% in a week, equivalent to a drop of Tk23,450 per bhori, amid global market corrections and easing local demand.
According to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), the price of 22-carat gold now stands at Tk1,93,620 per bhori or Tk16,616 per gramme, effective from Wednesday, following four consecutive reductions since 23 October.
On 20 October, the price had reached a record Tk2,17,070 per bhori or Tk18,637 per gramme. The downward adjustment began on 23 October as BAJUS revised rates several times in response to declining global prices and weakening domestic demand.
Jewellers said the latest drop reflects stabilisation in the international bullion market after weeks of sharp hikes caused by geopolitical tensions and a stronger US dollar.
They added that sluggish local sales have also prompted traders to readjust prices in line with global trends.
