The domestic gold market has witnessed another price cut. According to the latest decision, gold will be sold at new rates starting on Tuesday.
In a notification issued late on 27 October, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced a reduction of Tk 3,674 per bhori (11.664 grammes) of gold.
Under the new rates, 22-carat gold will be priced at Tk 204,283 per bhori, 21-carat at Tk 194,999, 18-carat at Tk 167,145, and traditional gold at Tk 138,942 per bhori.
BAJUS also noted that the selling price must include the mandatory 5% government VAT and a 6% minimum making charge set by the association. The making charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.
Previously, on 26 October, BAJUS had last adjusted gold prices, reducing 22-carat gold by Tk 1,039 to Tk 207,957 per bhori. The rates for 21-carat, 18-carat, and traditional gold were then Tk 198,498, Tk 170,143, and Tk 141,496 per bhori respectively, effective from 27 October.
So far this year, gold prices have been adjusted 69 times – increased 48 times and reduced 21 times. In 2024, gold prices were revised 62 times, with 35 hikes and 27 reductions.
Silver prices have also been cut this time. The new price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk 4,246 per bhori, down by Tk1,224. Prices for 21-carat, 18-carat, and traditional silver are Tk 4,047, Tk 3,476, and Tk 2,601 per bhori respectively.
This marks the ninth adjustment of silver prices in 2025 – six increases and three decreases. Last year, silver prices were revised three times.
