Galleri Kaya will celebrate its 22nd anniversary with a major group exhibition featuring 45 modern and contemporary artists from Bangladesh and abroad, opening on June 12 at its Uttara gallery space in Dhaka.
The exhibition, titled ‘22nd Anniversary Exhibition’, will be inaugurated at 5:4 5 m by Brent T Christensen. Artist Shahid Kabir and Barrister Nihad Kabir will attend the opening ceremony as special guests.
Organised by Galleri Kaya, the exhibition presents 73 artworks created between 1957 and 2026, offering a broad overview of artistic practice across nearly seven decades.
The show brings together works by prominent figures in South Asian art, including Nitun Kundu, Monirul Islam, Shahabuddin Ahmed, Rafiqun Nabi, Hamiduzzaman Khan, Hashem Khan, Farida Zaman, Jamal Ahmed and Shishir Bhattacharjee. The exhibition also includes works by renowned Indian artists Jogen Chowdhury, K G Subramanyan, M F Husain and Ramkinkar Baij.
Other participating artists are Abdus Sattar Toufiq, Abdus Shakoor Shah, Abu Taher, Abul Barq Alvi, Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Ajit Seal, Aloptogin Tushar, Aminul Islam, Ashraful Hasan, Bishwajit Goswami, Chandra Bhattacharjee, Chandra Shekhar Dey, Debdas Chakraborty, Goutam Chakraborty, Ivy Zaman, Kamaluddin, Kamruzzaman Sagar, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Kazi Rakib, Masuda Kazi, Mohammad Eunus, Murtaja Baseer, Nabaraj Roy, Nagarbasi Barman, Ranjit Das, Ratan Mojumder, Sahid Kazi, Samarjit Roy Choudhury, Shahanoor Mamun, Shahid Kabir, Sheikh Afzal Hossain and Shohag Parvez.
Spanning a wide range of media, the exhibition includes paintings, drawings, prints and mixed-media works created using oil, acrylic, charcoal, ink, pastel, watercolour and indigenous pigments. Visitors will also see examples of printmaking techniques such as etching, intaglio, linocut, serigraph, lithograph, woodcut and wood engraving.
According to the organisers, the exhibition aims to highlight the diversity and continuity of artistic expression across generations by bringing pioneering masters and contemporary practitioners together on a single platform.
