BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday extended warm greetings to the Hindu community on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja, urging everyone to celebrate the festival peacefully.
In a video message, Tarique Rahman extended his heartfelt greetings to the Hindu community of Bangladesh on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
He noted that people of diverse faiths celebrate their respective religions and festivals with enthusiasm across all communities, reflecting the enduring religious and social values of Bangladesh. This spirit fosters mutual friendship, goodwill, and brotherhood among different religious and cultural groups.
Tarique Rahman urged the Hindu community to celebrate the festival with joy and said, “Celebrate the festival with enthusiasm and spread the message of goodwill and harmony.”
He also said, “The Constitution of Bangladesh and the state are working to ensure the security of every citizen, and it is the fundamental duty of the state to guarantee the safety of all citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity.”
Quoting a Hadith, he added that the Prophet (PBUH) warned followers against oppressing non-Muslims who are granted state protection, saying such oppression will be judged harshly in the hereafter.
Raising allegations that communal tensions have been created during Sharadiya Durga Puja under fascist rule, Tarique Rahman urged the law enforcement agencies to remain alert and vigilant to ensure that such situations do not arise again.
