From family celebrations and temple visits to childhood memories and a goddess-inspired look, Bangladesh’s entertainment stars have shared their different ways of embracing Durga Puja on social media.
Actress Bidya Sinha Saha Mim welcomed the festival with her husband, Sony Poddar, and other family members. On Maha Shashthi, she posted Instagram photographs capturing joyful moments with her loved ones, captioned “Shubho Shashthi”.
The pictures offered fans a glimpse of Mim’s family celebrations as the festival began.
Meanwhile, actress Puja Chery has been visiting Puja mandaps and sharing photographs taken in front of Durga idols. On Maha Saptami, she highlighted women’s strength and resilience in a social media post.
“The goddess is not only in the idol, but also in every woman’s courage, every protest and every story of rising again,” she wrote.
Puja also wished for a festive atmosphere filled with light and flowers, expressing hope that the goddess’s blessings would bring peace to every weary heart.
For actress Apu Biswas, the festival brings a more bittersweet feeling. Since losing her mother several years ago, she has found the celebrations less joyful than before.
Speaking to the media recently, Apu said she would stay in Dhaka during the Puja holidays and had no special plans. However, she hoped everyone would find happiness in this year’s celebrations and that the festive spirit would endure.
Actor Manoj Pramanik will also spend Puja in Dhaka because of shooting commitments, breaking with his long-standing tradition of returning to his village for the festival.
Manoj moved to Dhaka for work after attending school, college and university, but he said he had always returned to his village for Puja. The rural celebrations remain an important part of his childhood memories.
Many of his traditions remain unchanged, including spending time with relatives, visiting mandaps and enjoying festive food, particularly naru, a traditional sweet.
Recalling the inclusive atmosphere of the celebrations he witnessed growing up, Manoj spoke of cultural programmes, jatra performances and community-organised events that brought people from different backgrounds together. He also extended his Sharadiya greetings to everyone.
Actress Pori Moni, who is Muslim, has also drawn attention with a look inspired by Goddess Durga.
On Sunday, she shared a video on Facebook wearing a traditional white sari with a red border, an ornate crown and holding a lotus. The styling echoed familiar imagery of the goddess and drew praise from social media users.
“May good triumph over evil,” Pori Moni wrote in the caption.
Director Chayanika Chowdhury was among those who shared and praised the actress’s festive look on Facebook. She also extended her wishes, writing, “Shubho Maha Saptami… May everyone’s life be easy and beautiful.”
From family gatherings and mandap visits to nostalgic memories of village celebrations and creative tributes to the goddess, the stars’ social media posts have offered a glimpse of the many ways they connect with the spirit of Durga Puja.
