A four-day Winter Book Fair, organised by the Dhaka University Dawah Circle, began on Thursday at the Payra Chattar of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the Dhaka University campus.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.

Among others, Professor Md Sanaullah, chair of the Department of Islamic Studies; Professor Abu Syem, chair of the Department of World Religions and Culture; and Professor Md Kamrul Hassan of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management were present at the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor said, “One of the key responsibilities of Dhaka University is the production and dissemination of knowledge in society. A book fair serves as a vital catalyst in that process.”

He added, “The university administration always encourages such initiatives. Dhaka University will continue to support those who work to spread knowledge, irrespective of their religion, race, or background.”

A total of 28 publishing houses are participating in this year’s fair, which features a variety of programmes including author-reader sessions, discussions, Quran recitations, quiz competitions, and free distribution of saplings.

The fair will run until 9 November and will remain open to visitors every day from 10am to 9pm.
