A Dhaka court has granted a two-day remand for former Brahmanbaria-5 Member of Parliament (MP) Faizur Rahman Badal in a case filed over an attempted murder during the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order after police produced him before the court on Wednesday.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Maruf Hasan of New Market Police Station, sought a three-day remand for interrogation. In the petition, the officer stated that the remand was necessary to uncover the main motive behind the incident, recover the weapons used, and identify and locate the named and unidentified accused.
Faizur Rahman Badal was arrested on 18 September from the Khilkhet area of Dhaka.
According to the case statement, on 19 July 2024, the accused allegedly ordered an attack and opened fire with firearms on students from colleges and universities who were participating in an anti-discrimination movement near Dhaka College. During the attack by the accused and others, several students sustained serious injuries.
