The government has decided to send former Detective Branch Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Golam Saklain to forced retirement after evidence of an “immoral” relationship with film actress Pori Moni was found, officials said.
A notification signed by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has been prepared. The summary will be sent to the president’s office through the prime minister’s office, and the compulsory retirement order will be issued after presidential approval.
On 9 June 2021, Pori Moni filed a case against businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud at the Dhaka Boat Club in Savar, alleging rape and attempted murder. Golam Saklain was the investigating officer in that case.
It was later revealed that Pori Moni frequented Saklain’s residence.
Following the allegations, Saklain was transferred from the Detective Branch, and a three-member investigation committee was formed. The probe found the allegations to be true.
Additional Secretary (Discipline Branch) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Kazi Md Saiful Islam told TIMES of Bangladesh on Tuesday night that the decision to send Saklain to compulsory retirement was taken during the previous Awami League government’s tenure.
“The file went missing during the vandalism and arson at the Prime Minister’s Office on 5 August 2024. A new file has been created,” he said.
A memorandum from Deputy Secretary of the Discipline-2 Branch of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs Rokeya Parveen Jui stated that despite being married and having a child, Saklain established an “immoral” relationship with Pori Moni, which tarnished the government’s image.
A charge sheet was issued against Golam Saklain under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. As the charges were proven during investigation, a departmental case is being conducted against him.
