The prosecution has submitted formal charges to the International Crimes Tribunal against former army officer Major General (retd) Ziaul Ahsan in a case involving three allegations, including enforced disappearance and murder.

On Wednesday morning, Prosecutor Sheikh Mahdi submitted the charges to the registrar of the ICT. The accused was produced before the tribunal at that time.

Earlier, on 11 December, the ICT extended 18 January the deadline for submitting investigation report in the crimes against humanity case against Ziaul Ahsan and 10 others. The order was issued following the prosecution’s request for more time.

Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her defence adviser Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddiq, and former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed are among the accused. The names of the remaining accused have not been disclosed in the interest of the investigation.
