The southwest monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh, with a well-marked low-pressure area currently lying over the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.
As a result, rain or thundershowers are expected in different parts of the country, while moderately heavy to heavy rainfall may continue in some areas.
The information was given in the weather forecast for the 24-hour period starting at 6am on Friday.
According to the Met Office, wet weather is likely to persist over the next five days, with rain, thundershowers and heavy downpours continuing in different parts of the country.
For the three-day period from Friday to Sunday (21–23 August), until 6pm, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at many places over the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
Similar weather is expected at a few places over the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barisal divisions. Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places across the country during the period.
Meanwhile, rain has remained dominant across the country for several consecutive days, with the highest rainfall recorded at 30mm in the past 24 hours.
Regarding temperatures, daytime temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged on Friday, while night temperatures may rise slightly.
Over the three-day period, both day and night temperatures are expected to fall slightly on Saturday before remaining nearly unchanged on Sunday.
