Bangladesh’s first dedicated film festival on migration has been launched, with organisers calling on young filmmakers and students to submit short films centred on migration experiences. Entries opened on 1 April and will be accepted until May 25.
The initiative welcomes fiction, documentary and animation projects produced on any device, including mobile phones, provided each film runs under 15 minutes and addresses migration as its core theme.
Participants are encouraged to explore both the achievements of migrant communities and the complex realities surrounding migration, including exploitation, trafficking, perilous journeys and the emotional toll on families.
Winning entries will receive filmmaking equipment, while selected participants will be recognised with certificates and commemorative awards. Shortlisted works are also expected to be showcased during the festival and considered for wider broadcast.
As part of the programme, a series of online workshops will be held in the initial weeks to guide participants through storytelling and production techniques. Submissions can be made through digital platforms, with further details available via the organisers’ official channels.
The festival is being organised by the BRAC Migration Programme as part of a wider campaign to raise awareness about migration and the risks associated with irregular movement, with support from the Australian Government.
