A devastating fire triggered by a gas cylinder explosion at Kamarhat Bazar in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur, reduced at least 10 shops to ashes, with affected businesses estimating losses of more than Tk1 crore.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze broke out suddenly after a cylinder exploded at a shop owned by Bahar, and the flames quickly spread to adjacent units, engulfing clothing stores, grocery shops and electronics outlets.
A unit of the Fire Service rushed to the scene after receiving the information and brought the fire under control following an hour-long effort, locals said.
Lakshmipur Fire Service Station Officer Ranjit Kumar Saha said the fire is primarily believed to have originated from the gas cylinder inside Bahar’s shop.
He said the preliminary cause and initial estimates of damage have been recorded, and the exact cause of the fire and the full extent of losses will be confirmed after a detailed investigation.
