Reigning European champions Spain and Didier Deschamps’ France meet at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in a blockbuster World Cup semifinal widely billed as a “final before the final.”
France have cruised into the last four thanks to a star-studded attack led by captain Kylian Mbappe, who has scored eight goals in six matches. He is supported by Michael Olise, Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele, and Paris Saint-Germain duo Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue.
Spain, meanwhile, have reached the semifinals through their trademark possession-based football under Luis de la Fuente. Rather than relying on individual brilliance, La Roja have thrived as a cohesive unit, with Rodri, Pedri and Fabian Ruiz controlling midfield and creating chances for teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
The contest promises a fascinating tactical battle, with Spain aiming to dominate possession and limit France’s attacking threat, while testing a French defence that has rarely been stretched in the tournament.
Spain will also draw confidence from recent meetings, having beaten France 5-4 in the UEFA Nations League last year and 2-1 in the Euro 2024 semifinals.
