Ferry operations on the Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed on Saturday morning after a temporary suspension of about two hours caused by dense fog over the Padma River.
Abdus Salam, acting deputy general manager of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said ferry services returned to normal around 9:30am.
He explained that the suspension, which began at 7:30am, was necessary to prevent potential accidents due to severely reduced visibility.
During the halt, two ferries, Khan Jahan Ali and Bhaigar, were stranded midstream.
Both vessels were safely brought back to the ghats once conditions improved.
Abdus Salam urged passengers to stay updated on ferry schedules and exercise caution when traveling during adverse weather conditions, especially when fog reduces visibility over the river.
The temporary disruption highlights the challenges faced by river transport in Bangladesh during dense fog, which can severely affect navigation and passenger safety.
