A Dhaka court sentenced a man to life imprisonment unto his death for violating his daughter in Keraniganj near the capital.
Dhaka Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 Judge Munshi Md Mashiar Rahman handed down the verdict in the rape case on Monday.
The court also fined convict Md Rubel Tk 100,000 and asked the deputy commissioner to sell off movable and unmovable assets of the convict to pay the fine to the victim.
Md Ershad Alam, a prosecutor at the tribunal, said, “We’re satisfied with the court’s verdict. We hope that this verdict will set an example in the society to reduce the offence.”
According to the prosecution, Rubel woke up his daughter from sleep and raped her in their house on the night of October 18, 2018. She became pregnant.
After the incident, the victim’s grandmother filed a rape case with Keraniganj Model Police Station.
