Police recovered the throat-slit body of a farmer from his residence in Netrokona around 10:30am on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Helal Uddin, son of late Ashraf Ali, a resident of Nariapara village under Kegati Union of Netrokona Sadar Upazila.
According to police, Helal Uddin and his wife Bedena Akter had gone to sleep together at their house on Saturday night.
In the early hours of Sunday, Bedena Akter went to washroom outside. On returning, she found her husband lying on the bed with his throat cut.
Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the house and informed the police.
Personnel from Netrokona Model Police Station and other intelligence units arrived at the scene, prepared the inquest report and sent the body to Netrokona Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge Md Al Mamun Sarkar said Superintendent of Police Md Tariqul Islam visited the scene after receiving information.
“The exact cause of the killing is yet to be determined, and an investigation is under way,” he said, adding that legal proceedings were being prepared in connection with the incident.
