A 40-year-old farmer was killed after being struck by lightning while cutting grass in Meherpur Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Khaja Mia, son of Azim Uddin, a resident of Boliyarpur village.
According to local sources, the sky remained cloudy with light rain from around noon. Khaja Mia went out in the afternoon to collect grass from a field.
He was struck by lightning when he reached the Bridge Math area along a field road, leaving him critically injured.
Family members and locals rescued him and rushed him to Meherpur General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
The Officer-in-Charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident and said police had been sent to the scene.
